Transformative Strategies: Essential Tools for Specialized Behavioural Support Services and the Power of Person-Centered Language
Description

The Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) Provincial Coordinating Office co-develops evidence-informed clinical and capacity-building tools that enhance care teams' knowledge across diverse settings, enabling them to skillfully and confidently care for older adults with, or at risk of, responsive behaviours/personal expressions associated with dementia, complex mental health, substance use and/or other neurological conditions. This presentation will equip attendees with practical tools that facilitate smoother transitions, foster personalized care plans, and nurture meaningful relationships. In addition, resources that have been created through a partnership with BSO and the Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in LTC, will be highlighted. These resources are meant to support teams to meaningfully engage team members, residents, families, and others in utilizing Person-Centred Language. With these resources and tools, leaders and healthcare providers can offer enhanced care and support, fostering a person-centred culture within their respective retirement home.
