Dr. Elisabeth (Lisa) Van Bussel currently is a Full-Time Clinical Academic and associate professor with the Department of Psychiatry, Division of Geriatric Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. As of Jan 2025 Dr Van Bussel became the Chair of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at Western University .
Dr. Van Bussel earned her Medical degree at University of Toronto (U of T) and then when on to complete her Psychiatry Residency at U of T in 1998. She joined St Joseph’s Health Care London, Regional Mental Health Care in 2000 as part time staff psychiatrist and became full time clinical academic with Department of Psychiatry Western University in 2003 and promoted to associate professor in 2010.
During her tenure with St Joseph’s London she has held leadership roles including Physician Leader for Geriatric Psychiatry Program and lead physician for Regional Psychogeriatric Program. At a provincial level she has been involved with the system advocacy for older adult’s mental and behavioral health needs.
At a national level she has been actively involved with the Canadian Coalition for Seniors Mental Health as a contributor to the development of best practice guidelines and with the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry’s Annual Scientific Meeting Planning Committee. In 2024 she was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry.
