Denis obtained a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy from the University of Toronto in 1994 and completed a hospital residency at Women’s College Hospital in 1995. Denis developed a special interest in applied clinical research after receiving his Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) from the University of Toronto in 1997. Following a career path in clinical pharmacy and community-based research, he has held positions at McMaster University, the Father Sean O’Sullivan Research Centre and the University of Toronto. The principal focus of his work has been on improving medication use among seniors.
Denis has contributed to the development of the Ontario Practice Guidelines for Osteoporosis and Diabetes, and has been involved in continuing medical education initiatives with the University of Toronto and McMaster University. Denis has been an active member of an independent research ethics board for over 25 years. Denis joined Medical Pharmacies (now CareRx) in 2001 as a clinical consultant pharmacist. Over the past 22 years, Denis has had a number of roles and responsibilities in the organization.
Presently, as the Director of Clinical Excellence, Denis provides leadership in the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of clinical and quality improvement activities across all provinces at CareRx. Outside of his work at CareRx, Denis volunteers as a member of the advisory board for OPEN (the Ontario Pharmacy Evidence Network) - a multi-institutional network of researchers and knowledge users dedicated to improving health and the healthcare system through better medication management. As well, Denis volunteers with the Safe Assured Research Group (based out of Dalhousie University), with the primary goal of collaborating with community pharmacies across Canada to improve medication safety. In 2014, Denis was the recipient of the Teva Canada Award of Excellence in Senior Care Pharmacy recognizing his tireless dedication to improving medication management in seniors across Canada.
