The Future of Palliative Care: How to Implement it Early and Build Resiliency
Description

Aging in place, which includes dying at home, is occurring more frequently in long-term care and retirement homes. Residents are increasingly arriving with progressive illnesses, yet the normal process of dying often feels unexpected, chaotic, and crisis-driven. A palliative care approach, which can greatly help, is reserved for only the last days or weeks. Palliative care is not only symptom management; it also includes providing information about what to expect and planning ahead. The benefits apply to residents, families, and staff. We’ll show how to apply an early palliative care approach, so staff can build resiliency to burnout, and feel more proactive, prepared, and in control.
