Registered Social Workers (RSWs) play a crucial role in mental health care in Ontario, especially in LTC homes, offering psycho-social support and care. In response to the observation that RSWs were predominantly occupied with admissions support, several Extendicare LTC homes in the GTA introduced a new position – Registered Social Services Workers (RSSWs) as Admission Coordinators. This strategic move aimed to enhance ongoing well-being support for residents by reallocating responsibilities. By dedicating Admission Coordinators to pre-admission and transition support, existing RSWs gained additional capacity, allowing them to provide more focused mental health and psycho-social-emotional services throughout residents' time in long-term care.
