This presentation will provide delegates with an appreciation for the surprisingly long history of using technology to aid in the remote delivery of therapeutic recreation to older adults and people living with dementia. From the telegraph to the internet, innovative practitioners have pushed what is possible by combining clinical insight and technologies at hand to improve the health and wellbeing of older adults.

The history of virtual social recreation underlines many of the lessons learned, challenges, and unique strengths of virtual recreation that emerge with each new application and case study. 

This talk will provide delegates with a survey of emerging solutions, and how they attempt to address the challenges and opportunities virtual recreation continues to present. It will also provide insight into the maturing practice standards and requirements from the perspective of professionals in the field.
